New Delhi (Media Bureau) The government has been taking continuous steps to provide relief to the common man during the lockdown. Meanwhile, the government is preparing to expand the scope of the ESIC scheme. According to media sources, the government may increase the coverage limit under ESIC to provide medical and cash benefits to maximum number of low paid employees. The Ministry of Labor has proposed to the Ministry of Finance to increase the existing pay ceiling for employees for coverage. According to sources, it has been proposed to increase the pay ceiling for coverage of employees. The Ministry of Labor has forwarded the proposal to the Ministry of Finance. Under the proposal, the salary cap has been increased from Rs 21,000 to Rs 30,000. Employees with a total salary of Rs. 30,000 will get the benefit of ESI coverage. Salary protection will also be provided in case of illness under the ESIC scheme. Extending the scope of the scheme will reduce the burden on companies. At the same time the burden of medical cover will be less in lockout. At present, about 12.50 lakh companies are benefiting from it. Note that the benefit of ESIC scheme is available to the employees who have a salary of less than Rs 21,000 and are working in a company with at least 10 employees. Earlier, the salary limit till 2016 was Rs 15,000.
