New Delhi (Media Bureau) A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking quota for OBC candidates in medical colleges. During the hearing on the petition on Thursday, the apex court remarked that “reservation is not a fundamental right”. The bench, headed by Justice L Nageshwar Rao, said in its order that no one can claim the right to reservation as his fundamental right. Not giving the benefit of reservation in such a case cannot be considered as a violation of constitutional right in any way.
Petition filed by political parties
The CPI, DMK and some of their leaders had filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking 50 per cent OBC reservation in UG, PG medical and denture courses. According to media reports, he said that Tamil Nadu has 69 per cent reservation for OBCs, SCs and SEs and out of this, OBC reservation is around 50 per cent.
