Need to be aware of possible locust infestation: Chief Agriculture Officer

Under the direction of Deputy Commissioner Patiala Mr. Kumar Amit, the Chief Agriculture Officer Dr. To implement the action plan prepared for Patiala district under the leadership of Surjit Singh Walia, instructions were issued by the Chief Agriculture Officer in a meeting with the representatives of various departments here today.During the meeting, the Chief Agriculture Officer asked the representatives of various departments to deploy nodal officers in their department to coordinate the possible locust infestation. He said that awareness camps should be organized at the village level for farmers and announcements should be made through religious places. He said that Chloropyrifos and Lamdasaihelothrin were being administered by the Agriculture Department for the prevention of locust infestation.Dr. said that during the meeting various departments including Local Bodies, Municipal Corporations, Cooperative Societies, District Mandi Officers have been apprised about the instructions given by the Punjab Government and the departments have been directed to provide fire brigade, spray pumps, water to control the locusts. It has been asked to make necessary arrangements for the availability of.Giving information about the locusts, the Chief Agriculture Officer said that after traveling about 150 km during the day, the locusts settle in one place at night and to prevent this, they are sprayed at night and eradicated. He said that the police and health department have also been asked to make necessary arrangements in case of any possible attack by the locusts.

Dr. Surjit Singh Walia said that Deputy Commissioner at District level and SDM at Block level. There will be Nodal Officers who will monitor the Block Agriculture Officers and Nodal Officers of various departments.
During the meeting, KVK Ronnie’s associate director Dr. Jaswinder Singh, District Revenue Officer Thind, Deputy Director Dairy Mr. Ashok Rauni, Veterinary Officer Dr. Sanjay Sharma, Fisheries Officer Hardeep Kaur, Mannu Bhakri, Simranjit Kaur, Dr. Praveen Punj, Keshav Kumar, Balbir Singh were present.
